# Download a list as a spreadsheet

Open your list's **Settings** and use the **Spreadsheet** card to download a CSV. The export controls are available at desktop width; on a phone, the card asks you to open the list on a computer.

## Export the current gifts

1. Sign in and open the list you manage on a computer.
2. Choose **Settings** and find **Spreadsheet**.
3. Wait for the list's gifts to load, then choose **Export** with the displayed item count.
4. Find the downloaded CSV and open it in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or another spreadsheet app.
5. Check the rows before using or sharing the file. A download does not change the gifts in GiftList.

The download is a snapshot. Later changes on the list do not automatically update a file you already saved. Exporting a list is different from the purchase tracker and does not establish that retailer orders were completed.

## Use a blank template

Choose **Download blank template** from the same card when you want a starting spreadsheet. Keep the `gift_id` column intact in exported files so the identifiers are preserved for workflows that use them.

A template and export do not mean CSV upload or round-trip editing is available. Editing a downloaded spreadsheet does not update GiftList. Use GiftList's gift editor to change an existing item unless the product explicitly offers a supported import action.

## If the button is unavailable

An empty list has nothing to export; use the blank template if appropriate. If the card says it could not load the gifts, choose **Try again** and wait for the result. Export remains unavailable while that load has failed.

Use a desktop-size browser when the phone note is shown. If a download does not appear, check the browser's Downloads area and any blocked-download message. Contact support with the list link and browser version if the problem continues; avoid attaching a file containing private information unless needed for the investigation.
