Understanding GiftList data
A saved gift idea, an active wishlist and a completed purchase describe different things. These definitions help readers interpret a GiftList data report.
- Gift ideas added
- Additions to GiftList lists during a stated period. This measures saved ideas, not purchases, unique products or dollars spent. Each report specifies included sources and exclusions.
- New or updated lists
- Distinct lists created or changed within a stated period, counted once. Reports distinguish existing lists from new lists and explain which changes qualify.
- Active lists
- Activity depends on the measure: a list can receive a new idea, an edit, a view or a retailer click. Reports identify which actions count rather than treating these populations as interchangeable.
- Product trends and prices
- Rankings describe the report’s sample of GiftList activity. Price summaries identify the currency, valid-price sample, deduplication and price snapshot. Saved prices may differ from a retailer’s checkout price.
- Retail sales
- Wishlist value is not gross merchandise value. Any sales figure needs a stated purchase source, currency, attribution coverage and treatment of cancellations or returns.
- Privacy and interpretation
- Public reports use aggregate findings and explain the sample and any minimum group size. GiftList activity is not a representative survey of all shoppers.
