Shipping, missing orders, returns and gift receipts

Updated

In this guide

For gifts bought from a store through a GiftList product link, the retailer handles checkout, shipping, tracking, returns and refunds. GiftList records what someone marks purchased; it does not verify the order or track the parcel automatically.

If you bought the gift

  1. Find the retailer's order confirmation, receipt or purchase history. Use that store's order number to check status.
  2. Check the delivery address and shipping estimate on the retailer's order, not just the GiftList entry.
  3. Contact the retailer about delays, wrong addresses, cancellations, returns or refunds. Its policies and deadlines apply.
  4. If you cancelled or returned the gift and will not replace it, release your GiftList reservation so others can see what is available again.

Before ordering, read any delivery instructions shown when you open the gift. An owner may provide a shipping address, ask you to contact them, or ask you to bring the gift in person. If no usable instructions appear, ask the owner. GiftList does not automatically enter their address at checkout.

Add useful order information

When marking a gift purchased, Continue leads to optional Purchased from, Order number, Tracking number and gift-receipt fields. Record the information you have, then finish Mark as purchased. Upload only a receipt you are comfortable sharing with the recipient after reveal; do not include payment-card details.

A GiftList confirmation email says your list update was recorded. It is not the retailer's confirmation that payment succeeded or an order shipped.

If you are waiting for a gift

Open your list's Tracker on the web, or Gift tracker in the app's list menu. Choose Reveal gifts when you are ready to see recorded givers and any order details they supplied. This can reveal the surprise, so decide before opening those details.

If there is no tracking or receipt, ask the giver privately. A purchased mark alone does not establish a completed retailer order, its shipping address or delivery date. GiftList support cannot provide a retailer's order record that was never supplied.

If the GiftList record itself is wrong or a receipt will not attach, contact GiftList support. For the actual order, contact the store where it was bought, even if the gift now links to a different seller.
